How do we choose what goes on this list?
A call is listed only if all of these are true when we check it:
- An organization registered in an African country can be the applicant, either on its own or as the lead of a group. Calls limited to a donor’s existing framework partners or to organizations from one donor country are left off.
- It’s open now, with a deadline in the future or a rolling process.
- We found it on the funder’s own website or official portal, and the link goes there, not to a third party.
- It’s a grant or call for proposals. Procurement of goods and works is left off; for consultancy tenders, see our guide to donor tenders in Africa.
Always read the full guidelines on the funder’s site before you apply. Deadlines are shown as the funder states them, including the time zone, and funders sometimes extend or change them. If you spot a mistake or a call we’ve missed, email hello@aventiswest.com.
Real funders never charge a fee to apply or to receive a grant. If an offer asks for one, it’s almost certainly a scam.
Need help with an application?
Most of these calls start with a short concept note. Our guides cover how to write a concept note, theory of change and logframes, and where NGOs in Africa can find grants. If you have a draft, our concept note review scores it against the call’s own grid. If you’d like us to write an application, see our work with NGOs in Africa or get in touch.
